Bonus KOTOR, Midsouthcon & more...

Bookmark and Share

A few things. First off, Midsouthcon was great, as usual. I don't have any photos of my own this time, but it was great getting to meet Kevin J. Anderson, Rebecca Moesta, Gail Simone, and all the other guests there — and we had some very good panels. (That's me and Gail in the pic, image courtesy Lin Workman.)

My own annual panel on new projects had the largest audience yet — and while I haven't had time to figure out how best to post the audio from it, I can share the news I was allowed to tell the audience there. I have a third piece of Knights of the Old Republic-era fiction coming to the Star Wars fan club site, Hyperspace. Tentative title: The Journal of Doctor Demagol.

This is something I had considered doing for a long time, potentially as a back-up feature for whatever issue of KOTOR wound up having Demagol's origin story. I'd always wanted to tell a story looking at the series from his point of view — getting into what was going on in the twisted mind inside the helmet. As it turned out, we ended up doing the origin story in #48, where we also had the Mass Effect Redemption preview and my short essay. But the longer-form piece was still bubbling in my mind, and I'm glad we've found a place for it. It's a nice little coda to the comics series, and it was loads of fun to write. I don't know when it's scheduled to appear yet, but keep an eye on StarWars.com!

Meanwhile, we're well into Knight Errant mode — and readers will find the just-released Star Wars Insider #116 has an article that reveals a few new tidbits. Note that, as with KOTOR #50, the text went to press before we made the change to the final title, so it still has the working title, "Jedi." But it's definitely Knight Errant!

Finally, I survived hotel registration day for San Diego Comicon, so I guess I'm in — first time in four years for me. May the comfortable shoes be with me!

Star Wars: Knight Errant interview on Comic Book Resources

Bookmark and Share

Pretty much as the headline says: I sit down (well, at the keyboard) for an interview with Comic Book Resources on my upcoming Dark Horse series and Del Rey novel, Star Wars: Knight Errant. Enjoy!

Not sure exactly how to evaluate what's mentioned in the article about how novel (no pun intended) it is to have a Star Wars author working on a project in both media at once. Obviously Michael Stackpole wrote both the X-Wing Rogue Squadron novels and comics, and Kevin Anderson worked on both, though not involving the same series. I think perhaps they may be referring to the fact that the X-wing novels pre-existed the comics by some time, whereas here the launches are happening at more or less the same time.

Dark Horse sends Mass Effect #1 to troops overseas

Comics have been going to troops overseas for years — sold in PXs and given in care packages. In that tradition, there's a pretty big care package going out from Dark Horse — which announced plans today to donate 5,000 copies from the latest print run of our Mass Effect: Redemption #1 to troops overseas!

Don't forget, our third issue is on sale today. Get on board now — this series is a world-traveler!

Mass Effect #3 now on sale!

No, not the video game — but the third issue of the hit comics series hits the stands on Wednesday. The first two issues are sold out — but with reprints on the way, you can still get on board with Mass Effect Redemption. Our third issue hits the stands Wednesday, and it's a lot of fun — as Liara and Feron stop fighting long enough to chase the Shadow Broker to his more turf.

Had a lot of fun scripting this issue — hope you'll enjoy reading it. Be sure to check it out — and catch my production notes on it here in a few days. Early issues are scarce but out there — it's worth checking with  TFAW.com every so often. You can also preorder the trade paperback, or order the reprints from your local retailer.
